Leeds welcomes Hollywood a-listers as filming for a new ‘crossover’ Marvel show starts in Yorkshire

Leeds is playing host to Hollywood royalty - as filming for a new Marvel Studios show gets underway in the city centre.

The show, which is being filmed in west Yorkshire, is reportedly for a new series called Secret Invasion.

So, who is among the all-star cast - and where can celebrities be spotted filming?

What do we know about filming in Leeds?

Filming started on Sunday (23 January) from 8am until 6pm on Bond Court and Alexander Street in Leeds.

The area took two days to prepare on Friday and Saturday as filming also took place elsewhere Yorkshire - in Halifax, at the Piece Hall.

The Halifax Courier reported seeing filming activity at the Grade 1 listed courtyard on 22 January.

Pictures captured by the newspaper (below) shows the arrival of lorries, small tents and set-building equipment setting up at the only remaining Georgian cloth hall in the world, which dates back to the eighteenth century.

The US mini series is being directed by Kyle Bradstreet for the streaming service Disney+ and is expected to premier late 2022.

Which actors will star in Secret Invasion?

An all star cast will be appearing on the show, including Samuel L. Jackson who reprises his role as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as Skrull Talos - —characters who first met in Captain Marvel. Cobie Smulders is also returning as Maria Hill.

Olivia Coleman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald and Carmen Ejogo have been cast in undisclosed roles while Kingsley Ben-Adir will be portraying the ‘lead villain’.

The six-part crossover show is expected to explore much-loved comic book heroes further in the Marvel universe - centering around the comics character former S.H.I.E.L.D. super-spy Nick Fury.

We know so far is that a group of shapeshifting aliens, known as the ‘Skrulls’, have invaded all aspects of life on earth.

It’s believed the idea for the Secret Invasion series was first planted in the Captain Marvel movie which introduced Skrulls into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
