Here’s everything you need to know about Strange Planet as it debuts on Apple TV+.

What is it about?

The official Apple TV+ synopsis for Strange Planet explains that “Based on the New York Times No. 1 bestselling graphic novel and social media phenomenon of the same name, “Strange Planet” is a hilarious and perceptive look at a distant world not unlike our own. Set in a whimsical world of cotton candy pinks and purples, relatable blue beings explore the absurdity of everyday human traditions.”

The idea is that the characters all speak in unusually literal ways, often making explicit what’s usually subtext - i.e., one alien might say to another, “request mutual limb enclosure” when asking for a hug, or refer to tears as “face fluids”.

At the moment, it’s a little too early to say (though the popularity of the original comic, and the success of producer Dan Harmon’s previous series, suggests it’s at least likely). As ever, as soon as there’s any official comment from the cast and crew or Apple TV+, we’ll update this piece with any and all relevant information.

Why should I watch Strange Planet?

It’s one to watch if you’ve enjoyed the original comics in their viral meme form, or if you’re a fan of some of Dan Harmon’s other high-concept sci-fi series.
