So, what is The Larkins about - and who stars in the show? This is what you need to know.

What is The Larkins about?

The reboot of the series Larkins is set in the 1950s on a farm in Kent.

Golden-hearted wheeler dealer Pop Larkin and his wife, Ma, are raising their six children - one son and five daughters, including eldest Mariette, played by Game of Thrones actress Sabrina Bartlett.

The children help Pops and Ma raise animals and earn money by a number of questionable means.

ITV’s synopsis states: “The Larkins are always happy to share what they have with others, despite the fact that what they have is sometimes obtained by unusual means.

“Sadly their good heartedness is not always shared by certain members of the local community and village gossip (particularly from the Normans) about Pop and his family is often rife.”

The six-part series follows the family as they fight back against meddling government officials and snobbish second homeowners as well as aggressive urban developers.

When Cedric ‘Charley’ Charlton arrives to inspect their taxes things are looking bleak for Pops, but Charley is soon distracted by the beautiful Mariette,

However, another love rival appears on the scene and Mariette must decide which one of them fits in with the plans she has for herself.

Who is in the cast of The Larkins?

The Larkins has a strong female cast since Pops (The Chaser’s host Bradley Walsh) has a wife and five daughters.

BAFTA nominated screenwriter and actress Joanna Scanlan (The Thick of It) stars as Ma Larkin, a country housewife who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty.

Bridgerton’s Sabrina Bartlett plays the eldest Larkin child, Mariette, who has itchy feet but is also loyal to her parents and stuck between her dreams and her roots.

The other five youngsters who make up the Larkin family are Lydia Page (The Worst Witch) as Primrose, Liam Middleton (Isolation the Series) as Montgomery, Lola Shepelev (Curfew) as Victoria and twins Davina and Rosie Coleman as Larkin twins  Zinnia and Petunia.

Tax man and Mariette’s admirer Cedric ‘Charley’ Charlton is played by Tok Stephen, who fans may recognise from earlier seasons of ITV’s Grantchester.

Northern Irish actor Tom Fisher (The King) will play Mariette’s other love interest, the mysterious Stephen Hagan.

70-year-old English actor Peter Davison, formerly Doctor Who and Tristan Farnon in the BBC’s television adaptation of James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small stories, will take on the role of the Vicar.

Also in the cast is Kriss Dosanjh (All Creatures Big and Small) as a brigadier in the army,

Ashes to Ashes actress Amelia Bullmore as Miss Edith Pilchester and Downton Abbey’s Robert Bathurst.

Will there be second series of The Larkins?

ITV have yet to confirm whether the popular remake will be commissioned for a second series.

All six episodes of the debut series are now available on the ITV Hub, and the cast are set to return for a one-off Christmas special, airing in December.
