The Tourist, the BBC One action thriller starring Jamie Dornan as an amnesiac searching for his past, is returning for a second season.

The series, which was one of the most popular BBC television series in 2022, will move from Australia to Ireland, following Dornan’s character back to his home.

What is The Tourist Season 2 about?

According to the official BBC One synopsis, The Tourist season 2 picks up “following their adventure in the Australian Outback, and set against the striking backdrop of Ireland, Elliot and Helen are confronted by friends and foes as they attempt to uncover the secrets of Elliot’s past.”

“Full of shocking plot twists and the same off-beat comedy that made series one a success, The Tourist is set to return with even more quirky characters and intense action.”

Who stars in The Tourist Season 2?

Jamie Dornan plays Elliot Stanley, a man suffering from amnesia. Dornan is perhaps best known still for his lead role in the Fifty Shades of Grey films, but you might also know him from the likes of crime drama The Fall and Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast. Most recently, he could be seen in the Netflix action thriller Heart of Stone, across from Gal Gadot.

Danielle McDonald plays Helen Chambers, a former police officer helping Elliot as he tries to remember his past. Outside of The Tourist, McDonald is best known for her appearances in the Netflix series Unbelievable and the Jennifer Ansiton film Dumplin’. 

They’re joined by Conor MacNeill as Detective Ruairi Slater (Industry, The Fall), Olwen Fouéré as Niamh Cassidy (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Northman), Diarmaid Murtagh as Donal (Vikings, Outlander), Nessa Matthews as Orla (Fair City), Mark McKenna as Fergal (Sing Street, One of Us is Lying), and Francis Magee as Frank (Kin, Then You Run) among others.

Who writes and directs The Tourist?

Series creators (and brothers) Harry and Jack Williams return to once again write every episode of The Tourist. They’re best known for their previous work on The Missing and its spinoff Baptiste, but you might also know them from the ITV drama Liar. They also served as producers on Fleabag. 

When and how can I watch The Tourist?

The Tourist Season 2 doesn’t yet have an official release date, but as soon as one is released by the BBC we’ll update this piece with any and all relevant information.

How many episodes will there be?

Just like in its first series, The Tourist Season 2 will be made up of six episodes, each of which are around an hour long.

Where was The Tourist Season 2 filmed?

The upcoming second season of The Tourist was filmed on location in Northen Ireland, following Elliot away from Australia and back to his home country. Filming began in April 2023.

Why should I watch The Tourist Season 2?

It’s one to watch if you enjoyed the first series – and, as one of the biggest dramas of 2022, there’s a solid chance you did.
