Speaking about season 6 at the premiere on Broad Street in Birmingham, Steven Knight said: “Expect the unexpected. It’s the best yet, and Tommy, poor Tommy, he’s facing lots of enemies, but the worst enemy he faces is himself.”

Knight previously said of the sixth series: “Peaky is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy, and the stakes have never been higher.

What is Peaky Blinders about?

The show created by Birmingham-born writer Steven Knight follows a notorious gang in 1919 Birmingham, England, led by the fierce Tommy Shelby, a crime boss set on moving up in the world no matter the cost.

Knight’s show was inspired by the gang of the same name whose members are said to have operated in Small Heath and other Birmingham areas from the 1880s until the 1910s.

The first season aired in 2013 on BBC Two until the fourth series, when it moved to BBC One for the fifth and upcoming sixth series.

The BBC drama has become a huge hit across Europe and the US after it was picked up by Netflix.

Cillian Murphy stars as gang leader Tommy Shelby, with the likes of Adrien Brody, Tom Hardy, Stephen Graham and Anya Taylor-Joy all featuring in the series.

In season 4, one year after a rift divides the Shelbys, they become targets of a Mafia vendetta, forcing the family to reunite and seek help from a shady new ally.

As the Shelbys grapple with the 1929 stock market crash in Season 5, Tommy confronts new threats to his power from younger family members and fascist rivals.

Will there be another series of Peaky Blinders?

Season 6 is the final season of Peaky Blinders, as confirmed by writer Steven Knight in January 2021.

However, Knight has previously noted his desire to transfer the Peaky Blinders’ tale onto the big screen to carry on the family and their stories into the Second World War.
