It raises many important questions around domestic abuse and guilt.

Here’s everything you need to know about Bad Love.

Who are Kyle Farrell and Farieissia Martin?

In November 2014, Kyle Farrell, 21, was killed by Fri Martin, his childhood sweetheart and the mother of his children, following an argument in her kitchen in Toxteth, Liverpool.

Kyle and Farieissia had known each other since primary school and had been together from the ages of 16.

They had two children under the age of three at the time of the incident.

Farrell’s family described him as “the most caring and loving person on this earth with a heart of nothing but gold who loved nothing more than being a father to his two beautiful children.”

Why did his girlfriend Farieissia Martin kill him?

During the trial, the court heard the couple rowed after Martin came back drunk to their home later than expected in the early hours of the morning.

According to Fri, Kyle had attempted to strangle her before she picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the heart.

She initially told police that intruders had stabbed Farrell but later admitted to stabbing him.

Her lawyers argued that she was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, which prompted her November 2014 attack on Mr Farrell.

The jury unanimously convicted Fri of murder in June 2015, and she was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 13 years.

Where is Farieissia Martin now?

The mum-of-two is currently serving a sentence for manslaughter after she successfully appealed the murder conviction on the basis of fresh evidence pointing to abuse in the couple’s relationship and the impact it may have had on her mental state at the time of the killing.

The barrister claimed Martin suffered domestic abuse during the course of their five-year relationship, which included outbursts of jealousy, physical violence, insults and psychological gas-lighting.

After facing a retrial at Liverpool Crown Court, she admitted manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years and nine months for killing Mr Farrell.

She received nine months for possessing a mobile phone and a razor blade while in prison.

Kyle’s family wanted Fri to stay behind bars, while Fri’s family were desperately fighting for her freedom, believing she had no intention of killing Kyle.

When is Bad Love on TV?

Bad Love will air on BBC Three for the first time on February 28 at 9 pm and can also be watched on BBC Iplayer.
