Belinda Campbell, joint managing director of Red Planet Pictures who produced the drama, said: "We’re delighted that Death In Paradise has been recommissioned for two more series.

"It’s testament to the talent of the cast and production team and the loyalty of our amazing audience that after 10 series, we remain one of the UK’s favourite TV dramas."

What happens in Death in Paradise?

The British–French crime drama television series created by Robert Thorogood follows the efforts of a British detective who joins the police force on the luscious Caribbean island of Saint Marie.

Each episode begins with pre-title credits showing the events leading up to a murder before the police force of Saint Marie is called to the scene of the crime, which appears unsolvable.

Investigations and interviews take place to establish the suspects, and after searching for evidence and clues, the detective solves the crime. He assembles all the suspects at the end of the episode and tells them who did it.

What has Death in Paradise producer Tim Key said about a future series?

Speaking to the Express, executive producer Tim Key said the writers are not "short of ideas,” meaning there could be a lot more to come.

Key said: "We’d love to do more specials in the future, we’ve always wanted to do a Christmas special.

"We tried to do something a little bit different to what we normally do but is still very much our show.

"We’d love to do another one, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

"It just fits Christmas very well and any opportunity to put Don Warrington in a Father Christmas costume is now one of my main aims, even if we don’t have a Christmas special, I might just write it into an episode!"

When is the final episode of season 11 on TV?

Death in Paradise season 11 concludes on Friday, February 25, at 9 pm on BBC One.

The synopsis for episode eight, which airs on Friday, reads: “When a prestigious chess match ends in murder, the team must work out how and why the killing was carried out. Meanwhile, the commissioner is confronted with his past by the very last person he was expecting to see.”
