School closures UK: which schools are closed today due to Storm Eunice - and how to check your school

Across the UK, a number of schools will be closing their doors to pupils and staff as Storm Eunice set to bring “dangerous conditions”.

The Met Office has announced a number of weather warnings which cover almost all of the country, with multiple red weather wind warnings, yellow weather wind warnings and yellow weather snow warnings.

This is how schools have been affected in the face of the storm.

Scotland

A number of schools across Scotland have announced that they will be closed due to Storm Eunice.

The majority of closures have affected schools in the Aberdeenshire Council area, including Aboyne Academy, Craigievar School, Largue School, Barthol Chapel School, Inverurie Academy and Westhill Academy.

Other schools across Scotland that will be closed today also include Auchterhouse Primary School (Angus Council), Whitecross Primary School (Falkirk Council) and St Duthus School (Highland Council).

As it stands, there have been no closures announced in Edinburgh, West Lothian, Midlothian, Glasgow or the Scottish Borders, however this could change.

England

The Met Office has issued a rare red weather warning across much of the south of England.

The warning will run from 10am until 3pm over the east of England due to fears of Storm Eunice “causing significant disruption and dangerous conditions due to extremely strong winds” up to 90mph.

The warning covering Greater London, Kent, Surrey and other parts of the South East joined an earlier-announced red weather warning starting from 7am along the coastline of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.

Wind gusts in the most exposed coastal areas could exceed 90mph, the Met Office has said, while an amber warning for gusts up to 80mph covers the whole of England from 5am to 9pm.

Many schools across England have announced that they will be closed due to the storm.

Bristol City Council has announced that all schools will close, with some schools in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Herefordshire, Suffolk, North Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucester and Oxfordshire will also be closed.

The majority of councils in Wales have announced that schools will be closed, or have advised schools to close, on Friday due to Storm Eunice:

Northern Ireland

In Northern Ireland, a yellow wind and snow warning has been issued by the Met Office for 3am to 6pm on Friday.

“Storm Eunice may cause disruption due to heavy snow and some strong winds on Friday,” said the forecaster.

Schools and colleges across the Republic of Ireland will remain closed on Friday after officials warned of a “high-impact, multi-hazard weather event”.

In nine counties, schools will be shut after Met Eireann issued a red wind warning for Cork, Kerry, Clare and Waterford.

An orange snow warning has also been issued for several counties in the north and west, including Donegal, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon.

The Met Eireann storm warning for Kerry, Cork and Clare came into effect at 3am on Friday and will remain in place until 8am.

The alert for Waterford began at 7am on Friday and will stay in place until 11am.

An orange wind warning for the Munster region and Counties Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, Wicklow and Galway, will last until 11am.

An orange snow warning for Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo and Roscommon, remains in place until 3pm.

A yellow wind and rain warning covers the rest of the country until 6pm, with a snow and ice warning in place until 10am on Saturday.
