Areas falling behind
UK government data shows that over 46 million people in England have now had their first jab (87.8% of adults) and more than 36 million have had their second dose (69.2%).
The latest local figures from NHS England, which cover the period up to 18 July, show three neighbourhoods in Lichfield, Preston and Portsmouth have double jabbed their entire over 18 population. Population figures are mid-year estimates from the Office for National Statistics so may not be exact.

Figures show 16 neighbourhoods across England have double vaccinated less than 20% of the adult population.
In one area of Sheffield, second doses are as low as 10%.
Regionally, 3.9 million Londoners have received two doses – representing just over half (57%) of the adult population. It is a different story in the South West though which has double vaccinated 72% of adults.
Elsewhere in England:
- The East of England and South East have fully vaccinated 71% of the adult population.

Hide AdNationalWorld revealed last week that young men are significantly less likely to have had their first Covid vaccine dose compared to young women.
As of 11 July, 1.4 million men aged 18 to 24 had received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, according to NHS England’s figures. For women of the same age, 1.5 million had received one dose – 65.8% of the population.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that as of September people will be required to be fully vaccinated against coronavirus to enter crowded spaces, like nightclubs, in a bid to encourage more young people to take up the vaccine.
