‘Ultra wealthy’ woman seeks "Lady's Companion" in mysterious job listing offering £85k salary
It could be someone’s dream job as an ‘ultra wealthy’ woman seeks a "Lady's Companion" offering a whopping salary.
A lady-in-waiting may be something we associate with royalty, or landed families in period dramas - but a mysterious job listing is calling for the 21st century equivalent, with a salary of some £85,000 a year. The online recruitment ad on The Lady website says an "UHNW individual" - ultra-high-net-worth person - is seeking to appoint a "Lady's Companion" to accompany her at high-society events.
The job description features duties similar to those of a lady-in-waiting - a female who attended on a royal woman or a high-ranking noblewoman in years gone by. In this role, based in central London, the successful applicant would be expected to attend medical appointments with their employer, as well as accompanying them to engagements and social occasions.
The high-level PA will also help with correspondence, diary management, booking travel and days out, managing purchases, and planning dinner parties at an SW1 address. They are required to be discreet, confident and polished, able to work quietly, the job ad goes on, as well as being highly organised, calm under pressure, and comfortable in an environment with "traditional expectations".

"This is a unique opportunity for a Personal Assistant / Lady’s Companion to support a UHNW individual who values tradition and formality, within her private Central London residence,” the ad said.
"Best described as closer to a Lady-in-Waiting than a conventional Personal Assistant, the role centres on presence, companionship, discretion, and impeccable standards rather than corporate executive support.
"The successful candidate will accompany the Principal to engagements, social and cultural events, private dinners, and appointments, offering quiet reassurance and practical day-to-day assistance, enabling her full and varied commitments to be managed with grace and care.
"The private office operates from her home, supported by an established, close-knit team who work collaboratively and discreetly on her behalf."
The role is full-time, with hours from 10am to 7pm Monday to Friday - but some evenings are required, it went on, with a salary "in the region of £85,000".
