All everybody is talking about is the name Carrie and Boris Johnson have called their third child together, Frank Alfred Odysseus or ‘Frankie’ as Carrie referred to him on Instagram. However, all I could focus on is Carrie's serene appearance in her Instagram post. Everything about it was perfect and very unlike how most women would feel and look after becoming a mother to three.

From Carrie’s hair to her make-up to the blanket swathed around baby Frankie, everything looked pristine. One item that was very noticeable to me was the lace nightdress Carrie Johnson was wearing, which screams the return of ‘Granny Chic.’

The nightdress in question reportedly comes from the website If Only If Nightwear. The small family business was started by Issy Falkner in 2011 and her daughter Emily Campbell took over in 2020. According to the website the company “believe the reason nightgowns have been around for centuries is because of their feminine elegance as well as being a deeply comfortable classic item.”

In 2021, the company made the decision to extend all their new styles up to a UK size 24. The website also says that “If Only If Nightwear is for every woman, no matter their age or size.”

Back in 2011, ‘Granny Chic’ was 'all the rage', with the likes of Alexa Chung all sporting cardigans, flesh-coloured tights, long skirts and brogues. Even supermodel Kate Moss seemed to be a fan of the trend.

Fast forward to 2023 and it would seem that once again ‘Granny Chic’ is making a comeback. In 2022 it was all about the ‘Coastal Grandma’ aesthetic, think white and cream clothing, hydrangeas, and Diane Keaton.

So, for those of you who are new to "Granny Chic; it is exactly what it says ‘on the tin.’ It is like looking like your grandmother, but the chicest grandmother imaginable. For someone who has always had a penchant for a cardigan, it won’t be hard for me to embrace ‘Granny Chic’ once again.
