After receiving the Partygate report, Boris Johnson is stepping down as an MP with immediate effect. Sky News has revealed that “In a statement, the former prime minister said he has received the findings from the privileges committee report into whether he misled MP’s over partygate.

In his statement, Boris Johnson said the following: “Much to my amazement they are determined to use the proceedings against me to drive me out of parliament.” He went on to say that “I have written to my association in Uxbridge and South Ruislip to say that I am stepping down forthwith and triggering an immediate by-election.”

As well as expressing his regret at leaving his constituency and saying it was an honour to serve them as Mayor and MP, he also said: “I am proud that after what is cumulatively a 15 year stint I have helped to deliver amongst other things a vast new railway in the Elizabeth Line and full funding for a wonderful new state of the art hospital for Hillingdon, where enabling works have already begun."

Boris Johnson’s wife Carrie Johnson revealed on Instagram only a few weeks ago the news that she was expecting their third child. She shared a photograph of the back of her and her two children, Wilfred and Romy, with the caption: “New team member arriving in just a few weeks. I’ve felt pretty exhausted for much of the last 8 months but we can’t wait to meet this little one. Wilf is v excited about being a big brother again and has been chattering about it nonstop. Don't think Romy has a clue what’s coming… She soon will.”

As Carrie Johnson only revealed that she was 8 months pregnant on the 19 May, the baby could be due in a matter of weeks. Her first child Wilfred was born in April 2020 and they announced the name of their daughter, Romy Iris Charlotte in December 2021.

When Romy was born, Carrie Johnson shared a photograph of her on Instagram  in a crib next to a Christmas tree with Wilfred by her side. She revealed that the baby was born after her aunt, Rosemary, Iris came from the Greek, meaning rainbow, and Charlotte was named after Boris Johnson’s late mother, Charlotte Johnson Wahl.
