Following Kylie Jenner’s appearance wearing a dress featuring a faux life-size lion’s head at the Schiaparelli spring summer 2023 couture collection in Paris, the fashion house has come under fire. Carrie Johnson shared an image from the show to her Instagram Stories and said: “Grim! Real or fake, this just promotes trophy hunting. Yuck.”

In response to Carrie Johnson’s criticism of the fashion house, Ed Balls said on Good Morning Britain that criticism of the designs was “political correctness gone mad.”

The former politician then reportedly asked Carrie if she would be offended by the West End theatre production of The Lion King that uses life-size lion costumes, or by vegetarian burgers.

Another vocal critic of the fashion house is photographer Misan Harriman, who is a good friend of Meghan Markle and has captured such moments as Meghan’s second pregnancy announcement and her daughter Lilibet’s first birthday. On his Instagram, he shared a post and wrote: “Dear fashion industry, this is NOT the way to start the year. Nope NOPE NOPE!.”

Misan then encouraged Schiaparelli to “be better.” and continued by saying: “This is disturbing.. And yes I know no animals were hurt in this. They are made from foam.”

Twenty two hours ago at the time of publishing, Schiaparelli also shared a post with the end line: NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED IN MAKING THIS LOOK.” In spite of this, many responded to the Instagram posts with negative comments such as: “One big No from me. This is not fashion and this is not art,” whilst another said: “So wrong. Why on earth do we need to celebrate a visual reference of trophy hunting.”

The most surprising reaction to the Schiaparelli dress has come from PETA.

Ingrid Newkirk who is their President reportedly gave a statement to DailyMail.com and said. "These fabulously innovative three-dimensional animal heads show that where there's a will, there's a way-and Kylie, Naomi and Irina's looks celebrate the beauty of wild animals and may be a statement against trophy hunting, in which lions and wolves are torn apart to satisfy human egotism."

It is interesting however that they seem to have taken the opposite standpoint on their social media.

Eleven hours ago, they shared a post and said that the likes of Kylie Jenner and supermodels Naomi Campbell and Irina Shayk “must extend this creativity to be 100% vegan and exclude sheep shorn bloody for wool and silkworms boiled alive for silk!”
