As well as being a photographer and chair of the South Bank Centre, Misan Harriman had ‘a part to play’ in Meghan and Harry meeting

Since it was announced that Prince Harry would attend his father King Charles' coronation alone on 6 May, questions have circled surrounding the reasons why Meghan Markle would be absent from the event including the Duchess of Sussex prioritising Archie's birthday (which falls on the same day) and not wanting to distract from the monarch on His Majesty's big day.

Crucially, claims suggested that Meghan would be avoiding the coronation as she believes the Royal Family failed to address the 'unconscious bias' mentioned in the infamous Oprah Winfrey interview before she and Prince Harry stepped down from royal duties.

However, Meghan has hit back at these claims stating she is 'going about her life in the present' and has now broken cover for the first time since, to introduce her close friend Misan Harriman to his TED talk via video link, where he talked about his London-based company Culture3.

Photographer and Culture3 founder Misan thanked the beaming Meghan on Instagram following his speech commenting: "The Duchess of Sussex was kind enough to introduce me onto the stage for my @ted. Thank you for the support, Meg.' PeopleWorld takes a look at their friendship:

When Meghan Markle shared a photograph of herself five months pregnant with daughter Lilibet, it was Misan Harriman who took it. He was also on hand to capture another intimate family occasion for Meghan and Prince Harry, Lilibet’s 1st birthday.

Misan is used to photography royalty as he was also responsible for the black and white image Princess Beatrice released when she announced her engagement to Edoardo Mapello Mozzi in 2019.

According to British Vogue, Misan Harriman “met and connected with Meghan long ago at a charity event.” He also revealed to them that “Meg reminded me that had I not introduced her to a mutual friend then she wouldn’t have met Harry. I’m grateful for whatever small part I played.”

Misan was born in Nigeria and moved to the UK as a child. He went to school at Bradfield College in Berkshire. Misan is married to Camilla Holmstroem and the couple have two children together.

As well as photographing royalty, Misan was the first black male photographer to ever shoot a cover for British Vogue. He also is renowned for work on the Extinction Rebellion and BLM protests.

In the last eight hours, he has shared an intimate photograph of Prince Harry crying at the Invictus Games earlier this year. The caption for the photograph read: “A truly extraordinary moment between invictus games UK Team member Tony Young and Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex. The Prince was visibly moved after the embrace and tears were flowing all around the stadium.”

Misan Harriman appeared in episode three of Meghan and Harry’s Netflix docuseries.
