The Colour Brown; the latest trending colour after Meghan Markle sushi date and Hailey Bieber appreciation

One week after returning to the States to make it back for his son Prince Archie’s fourth birthday after attending his father’s coronation, Prince Harry has stepped out for a sushi date with wife, Meghan Markle.
The couple’s date took place at Michelin star restaurant Sushi Bar in Montecito in Santa Barbara, but of course the main focus was on what Meghan was wearing. Rather than opting for a typically spring pastel hue, Meghan wore a chocolate brown dress with open-toed sandals.
Now, I know chocolate brown is a colour that one would normally associate with the colder months, but it is a big trend for spring/summer 2023. Jess Cartner-Morley of The Guardian has called it “Choco-chrome: monochrome, but sweetened with a syrupy dash of rich brown” She goes on to say that “Dopamine dressing was fashion to put a much-needed smile on your face and one the faces of the people you met. Choco-chrome dressing, on the other hand, is a bit less about making friends and a bit more about making an impression.”
Meghan Markle is clearly a fan of chocolate brown and the whole spectrum of brown as she has worn the colour on several occasions before her sushi date. For her first royal engagement of 2020, she went for complete ‘brown fashion look’ by opting for a brown Massimo Dutti turtleneck jumper, a bias-cut Midi skirt (by the same designer), ‘Romy’ pumps by Jimmy Choo, and a camel wool coat by Reiss.
It would seem that Meghan Markle is not the only high-profile name who has a penchant for brown. Blake Lively looked incredible when she stepped out in a tight fitting brown Brandon Maxwell leather dress to the star-studded party to celebrate the reopening of Tiffany & Co’s flagship store in New York.
Back in October 2022, Hailey Bieber stepped out in a sensational Saint Laurent chocolate brown dress that she wore to the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles. She also wore another brown Saint Laurent dress to the Elle Women in Hollywood event.
Meghan Markle is not the only royal who wears brown. Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales wore a brown polka dot dress by British brand Rixo when she took Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis (along with Prince William), for a settling in day at Lambrook School near Ascot in Berkshire, in September of last year.
So if you haven’t yet invested in any new pieces of clothing for spring/summer, you might want to forget about the pastels and think about adding chocolate brown instead.
