No booze, just brews: Singapore's Kopi is the new party drink

The global party scene is undergoing a major reboot, and this time, it’s all about caffeine, not cocktails. Ditching traditional alcohol-fuelled nights, Gen Z is establishing a nightlife renaissance grounded in wellness and connection.
Enter soft clubbing - a TikTok fuelled trend that’s rapidly replacing the typical night out with coffee day raves and sober clubbing experiences. Held in unexpected venues like rooftops and galleries, these alcohol-free events are redefining what it means to go out.
According to Eventbrite, coffee clubbing events have surged by 478, thermal gatherings are up 256, and morning dance parties have grown 20, signalling a global appetite for more mindful and health-conscious ways to party.
And one forward-thinking destination embracing this movement is Singapore - powered by its vibrant local coffee culture.
Affectionately referred to by locals as “Kopi”, the Singaporean version of coffee is a thick, creamy, and boldly sweet brew made from robusta beans, condensed milk and sugar, and is one of the country’s most widely consumed drinks, enjoyed right from the early hours of the morning. In fact, kopi accounts for over 70% of all coffee consumed in modern-day Singapore, with Singaporeans consuming around 15,000 metric tons of coffee annually.
First created in the 1900s, kopi remains a daily ritual across generations. Most commonly paired with kaya toast and soft-boiled eggs, it’s now expanding and taking on new cultural relevance. With at least 54 variations such as kopi O (with sugar, no milk), kopi c (with evaporated milk and sugar), and kopi siew dai (less sugar), it’s a brew that caters to every taste.
Singapore’s coffee market is thriving, reaching approximately $29.5 million in 2024 and is forecast to grow at a rate of 8.2% through to 2034. With kopi’s cultural resonance and energising kick, it's a natural fit for this new alcohol-free, coffee-fuelled party scene.
At the forefront of this trend is Beans & Beats, a Gen Z founded daytime rave collective that hosts caffeine-powered daytime parties that combine music, community and coffee throughout Singapore.
Founded in May 2024 by three friends, Ethan Lee, a specialty coffee brewer, Aden Low, a DJ and Matteo Lie, an event organiser, they left the traditional nightlife scene to create an alcohol-free event that blends coffee with underground music in daytime raves.
Their aim is to promote healthy, genuine social connections through events that run until 7PM, cost just $15–$20, and offer a space for people to dance, connect, and recharge - all without the pressure to drink.
Aden Low, Founder at Beans & Beats, said: “At Beans & Beats, we believe the best nights just need great music, good company, and caffeine to keep up the energy. With a growing culture for non-alcoholic beverages, we want to make caffeine-powered parties the next big thing and demonstrate how they connect people without the pressure of alcohol.”
With its unique flavour and natural energy, Singapore’s kopi provides a caffeine-powered alternative to alcohol. Globally, as the clubbing scene is evolving, party goers will look for new ways to feel energised.
Of course, for those who prefer their cocktails with alcohol, Singapore also offers an amazing nightlife scene. From world-renowned rooftop bars like Ce La Vie and Nova to speakeasy-style establishments, the city provides endless options for traditional nightlife enthusiasts.
This diversity means Singapore truly caters to every preference - whether you're seeking the energising buzz of kopi-fuelled day parties or the sophisticated allure of craft cocktails under the city lights.
