Upmarket supermarket Waitrose has relaunched its MyWaitrose loyalty card scheme to give it a greater focus on value.

The move comes as UK consumers face the worst cost of living crisis for decades.

Inflation has driven up the price of food and drink, while energy bills are skyrocketing and household budgets are set to be squeezed yet further by a hike in National Insurance from April.

So how has Waitrose changed its rewards scheme - and when will it launch?

Here’s everything you need to know.

New MyWaitrose to offer ‘greater value’

Launching its updated MyWaitrose scheme, Waitrose said it wanted to provide its members with greater value, tailored offers and money off their weekly shops.

It marks a move away from the perks the scheme has been based around since its launch in 2011, like the free newspaper and cup of tea and coffee - both of which have been scrapped.

“We want to reward our customers for their loyalty by giving them even better value without compromising on the taste and quality they expect from Waitrose,” said Waitrose customer director Martin George.

“Our revamped MyWaitrose helps customers save money on the products they buy the most.”

The new MyWaitrose will be split into two pillars - personalised offers and exclusive savings.

The first of these will see Waitrose tailor offers to each shopper, with the amount of choice you can expect dependent on how often you shop at the retailer.

Vouchers will become available weekly and can be accessed through the MyWaitrose online membership hub, where they will be loaded onto your MyWaitrose card.

Waitrose said it expected to issue 1.2 million digital vouchers each week that would cover around 15,000 individual products - drastically up from the 50 products it used to span.

The supermarket’s exclusive savings offering will continue to include its existing ‘Fish Friday’ deal.

But it will also now extend to its other service counters, meaning shoppers can get 20% off cheese, meat and deli products between 23 February and 14 March.

The 20% offer will then apply to the cheese and deli counters between 15 March and 19 April, as well as the fish counter on Fridays.

These offers will be refreshed on a monthly basis, with Waitrose saying they would provide a boost to smaller suppliers and British produce more generally.

When will MyWaitrose relaunch?

The revamped MyWaitrose is set to be launched next week.

Consumers will be able to access it from Wednesday (23 February).
