When is Apple event September 2021? Date and UK time of iPhone 13 launch, and what other tech will be revealed

Apple events always come with the promise of big announcements, like new devices, redesigns and software updates - and the September event is no exception.

This is everything you need to know about the September Apple event, which has been dubbed as California Streaming.

What can we expect from the event?

Apple has already held two events this year so far - in April, we were introduced to a slew of iPad upgrades, colourful iMacs and AirTag trackers, and then two month later we caught a first look at iOS 15, MacOS Monterey and WatchOS 8.

Apple will typically host three to four events in a year, and the September event typically brings new iPhones and Apple Watches.

The company has announced its latest iPhone during its September event every year since 2012, however last year saw a change in the pattern due to production delays caused by the pandemic. It is expected to return to its usual schedule this year.

The iPhone 13 is speculated to include four new devices - the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max - with each device varying in, size, price and specs.

New Apple AirPods have been rumoured as well, with the AirPods 3 set to be the newest version of the earbud brand which was first launched in 2016. It has been reported that the AirPods could be getting treated to a redesign, potentially with a shorter stem and a rounder body.

The Apple Watch 7 is another device that could be getting a new look as well, with rumours claiming that the newest version of the smartwatch will boast a flat-edged frame, resembling the likes of the iPhone 12 and iPad Pro, as well as a slightly larger display.

Apple is likely to save any new Macs for a later event which could take place in October or November.

Assuming Apple follows its usual schedule, you could be able to pre-order the newest Apple devices on Friday 17 September, with the new phones likely to launch the following week on Friday 24 September.

When will iOS 15 be released?

Apple fans got a taste of the iOS 15 software updates earlier this year in June, however users have only been able to participate in the free public beta.

In the past, big Apple iOS updates have been released soon after the September event, so it could be going live not long after the event.

Some notable features of iOS 15 include:

• SharePlay: Watch Together, which will allow you to watch movies and TV shows in a FaceTime call so everyone can watch the same thing in real time 
• Shared With You, which sees content sent to you via Messages automatically appear in a new Shared With You section 
• Photo collections, which will stack images in a collage that you can tap to spread out and swipe through
• Brand new Memoji clothing, hair and accessories
• A fresh new design for your notifications, with contact photos for people and larger icons for apps
• Live Text in photos, which will allow you to use functions like copy and paste, look up and translate words and text within photos 

As previously mentioned, the newest iPhones could be up for sale as early as Friday 24 September, so iOS 15 will need to be available before this point.

Forbes tech writer David Phelan estimates that iOS 15 will drop on Monday 20 September, after looking at all the previous releases of Apple’s large software updates.

When is it on - and how can I watch it?

The Apple Event, dubbed California Streaming, will kick off at 10am Pacific Time - in the UK, that translates to 6pm on Tuesday 14 September.

There are a few ways you can watch the Apple Event - either on the Apple Events website or via the Apple TV app if you have it.
