Zendaya surprised fans this weekend as she took to the stage Saturday night at Coachella 2023

While Frank Ocean fans might have been mourning the cancellation of the enigmatic R&B star’s second performance this past Coachella weekend, one surprise appearance has had the internet buzzing - that of Euphoria and current Louis Vuitton ambassador Zendaya. The 26 year old, who’s first campaign with the fashion house dropped late last week, shared the stage with Labrinth, the actress performed two songs that she released for her critically acclaimed television show, “Rue’s I'm Tired" (which she co-wrote) and "All For Us."

“I cannot express my gratitude enough for this magical night," she wrote to her followers on Instagram. "Thank you my brother Labrinth for inviting me and giving me the most beautiful safe space to be on a stage again. And to the crowd tonight ... wow ... my heart is so full. I can't thank you enough for the love I received tonight, made all my nerves melt away, I'm so grateful."

For those who are only familiar with Zendaya through her screen roles from both Euphoria and the Spider-Man franchise (myself included), Zendaya’s musical output dates back to her formative years as one of the many Disney kids that frequented the Disney Channel in the late ‘00s who more often than not threw their hat into music career ring.

In fact, alongside Bella Thorne, the pair released the single “Watch Me” from the soundtrack of their Disney Channel show, Shake It Up, where Zendaya first introduced herself to tweeny-bopper audiences.

Her first solo effort came in 2013, with the release of her eponymous debut through the Disney owned Hollywood Records; it charted at 51 in the Billboard album charts, but fared much better in the singles chart; two of the singles, “Replay” and “My Baby” both charted inside the top 30 in the US Billboard pop chart, with replay going three times platinum in the United States.

This would see the Disney star then three years later collaborate with controversial musician Chris Brown for the single “Something New,” before becoming a guest performer on the soundtrack for Hugh Jackman vehicle The Greatest Showman in 2018.

Zendaya’s music career followed in the footsteps of other Disney Channels stars parlaying their popularity with a young audience into a music career; asides from the incredible popularity that Miley Cyrus found during her years as Hannah Montanna, she was also joined by Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato as other Disney kids who tried to find crossover appeal in the music charts - some for the better (Miley Cyrus of course) and some for the worst (Bella Thorne, though we at Peopleworld know she was destined for a different creative outlet as she matured.)

No word so far if Zendaya’s appearance may mean some new music to emerge from the actress though two of the films she is set to appear in later in the year are currently in post-production; Dune: Part Two and Challengers, which she is also co-producing. Nothing new has been announced though after these films and the filming for Euphoria is said to have started in February 2023, though no release date has been indicated so far.
