A host of dangerous criminals were locked up in 2021 for a range of shocking crimes - among them are murderers, rapists and acid attackers.
Their sentences go from 14 years to whole life orders - here are 23 of some of the most notorious criminals who were jailed over the past 12 months.
1. Wayne Couzens.
Wayne Couzens was handed a rare whole life sentence for kidnapping, raping and murdering Sarah Everard before burning her body. Couzens, 48, who was a serving Met Police officer at the time used a false arrest to detain Ms Everard, accusing her of breaking Covid-19 lockdown rules. He used his Met Police-issue warrant card and handcuffs to snatch the 33-year-old marketing executive as she walked home from a friend’s house in Clapham, south London, on the evening of 3 March.Couzens has since lodged an appeal to try and reduce his sentence.
2. Emma Tustin
Emma Tustin was jailed for life with a minimum of 29 years after she was convicted of murdering her stepson Arthur Labinjo-Hughes. Tustin, 32, had carried out a campaign of cruelty against him which included withholding food and drink from him and poisoning him with salt. She was in sole charge of the six-year-old when she left him with an unsurvivable brain injury after assaulting him at her home in Solihull on 16 June last year. Arthur died the following day in hospital covered in 130 bruises. Photo: Midlands
3. Thomas Hughes
Thomas Hughes, 29, the dad of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes was found guilty of his son’s manslaughter for encouraging the killing. He was jailed for 21 years. Hughes would “pressure-point” Arthur for up to 15 seconds at a time, removed his son’s favourite teddy bear and cut up his prized Birmingham City FC football shirts in front of him. Hours before Tustin’s fatal attack on Arthur, Hughes sent her a text saying “just end him”.
4. Danyal Hussein
Danyal Hussein, 19, was jailed for life and must serve at least 35 years after he savagely stabbed Bibaa Henry, 46, and Nicole Smallman, 27, to death in a Wembley park, north London, in June last year. He had embarked on a “campaign of vengeance” against random women in a failed bid to win the Mega Millions Super Jackpot lottery prize of £321 million. Hussein was tracked down through DNA and police discovered a handwritten pledge to a demonic entity called King Lucifuge Rofocale to kill six women every six months, which was signed in blood.
