Shocking footage has shown a man being knocked out after being punched in a supermarket.

The video of an incident at the Shoeburyness Asda store in Essex was shared on social media.

In the footage a man wearing a hooded top can be seen approaching another man, who appears to be a member of security, at the entrance to the store.

As the hooded man approaches the other male punches him once, knocking him to the ground.

After he falls to the ground he is then dragged out of the store by the hood on his top.

‘We do not tolerate violence in our stores’

The clip, which was posted on Twitter has been widely retweeted.

A second clip shows the aftermath where the man gets up from the ground and seems to wave away an onlooker who stopped to help,

A police investigation into the incident is taking place.

An Asda spokesperson said: “We do not tolerate violence in our stores and are investigating the incident in our Shoeburyness store as well as supporting the police fully with their enquiries. As this is an ongoing police investigation we cannot provide any further comment at this time.”

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “We are investigating following an incident in Shoeburyness.

“We were called to the Asda store in North Shoebury Road at 6.10pm on 28 September to reports of a disturbance where a man in his 20s was assaulted.
