Police bodycam footage shows the moment a woman protested and sobbed as she was arrested for killing her boyfriend during a row at their home.

Kayley Mahood, 30, was captured protesting her innocence after an officer told her she was under arrest for attempted murder.

Police were called to Rosliston Road, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, on 25 July last year after receiving reports that a man had been stabbed in the left side of his chest.

Her 31 year old partner Oliver O’Toole was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ms Mahood was arrested after a knife was found in the kitchen and went on trial accused of murder at Stafford Crown Court on Tuesday (25 January).

She was cleared of murder by a jury but was convicted of manslaughter.

The 30 year old claimed she had acted in self defence during a row with Mr O’Toole, who was a professional boxer.

However, jurors were told how she was a woman “capable of great violence and rage” and had stabbed and glassed her boyfriend before.

Following the verdict, Staffordshire Police released video footage showing the moment Ms Mahood was detained by officers in the living room of their home.

She is seen on camera before a male officer wearing a bodycam can be heard telling her she was being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

He says: “I have just got here, I don’t know what is happening.

“Don’t tell me anything, stand up. I need to tell you that you are under arrest for attempted murder.

“You do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence, if you do not mention, when questioned, something which you later rely on in court.

“Anything that you do say may be given in evidence. Do you understand?"

As the officer speaks Ms Mahood is seen shouting “What! What! Attempted murder. Attempted f***ing murder", as she is handcuffed by officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Ison, of the force’s Major Investigations Department, said after the case: “Mahood’s actions have destroyed the lives of Oliver’s family and friends.

“There are no words or verdict which will bring Oliver back.

“I would like to thank his family who have shown immense strength and courage throughout.”

Jailed for eight years

Mahood of Rosliston Road, Stapenhill, was jailed for eight years at Stafford Crown Court on Thursday (January 27).

After the case, Mr O’Toole’s mum said the family felt “disappointed and let down” by the outcome of the murder trial.

She said: “We feel that had this been my son standing in the dock, the court and society would be judging it differently.

“If you choose to pick up a knife then you have already made up your mind to cause serious harm, even death to that person.

“This was a domestic situation where it has been proven that this woman was the aggressor and had previously used weapons and knives in previous assaults.

“We had to sit through two and a half weeks in court hearing lie after lie and statements constantly being changed when evidence was brought forward to prove her wrong.

“But worst of all that, my son died a slow, painful death and even as he lay bleeding she chose not to stay, face the consequences and help him.

“She chose to walk away leaving him to die in pain alone. She has never shown any remorse even after being found guilty.

“One day, she will walk free and will continue with her life. My son will not. His three young children will never have their daddy to look up to and share their lives.”

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Ison, of Staffordshire Police, added: “I welcome the judge’s sentence.

“I know no sentence or time in prison can ever bring back a loved one and would like to reiterate our sincere condolences to Oliver’s family and friends.”
