Coastal erosion has been washing away parts of the British coastline for thousands of years - but it is now accelerating due to climate change.

The village of Skipsea in Yorkshire has one of the fastest eroding coastlines in northern Europe, and last year residents were told that 20 properties were at imminent risk of falling into the sea.

Alison Mitchell, the landlady at The Board Inn in Skipsea, has seen the landscape change before her eyes over the past decade.

When asked if there’s a feeling that there’s nothing more that can be done for Skipsea, she replied: “Yeah probably, because you end up resting on your laurels, that nothing’s been done up until now.”

John, a local resident of the village, said: “The campsite employs a lot of local people. If that goes, that’s a lot of people in this village out of work. I think, in 10 years’ time, that campsite won’t be there.”

He added that he finds it “frustrating that no-one’s listening”, adding: “I have a funny feeling if we’d been down south, in Kent or Southampton, they’d have done something about it.”
