Controversial influencer Andrew Tate has been charged with rape, human trafficking and forming an organised crime group in 2021 to sexually exploit women in Romania, US and the UK, according to the BBC.

The 36-year-old and his brother Tristan, 34, are set to face trial in Romania over the indictment and are being sent to jail on Tuesday alongside two Romanian female suspects after they were originally placed under house arrest on 31 March 2023 following their initial arrest in December the year before.

The indictment names seven alleged victims who reportedly were recruited by the disgraced Tate brothers. While Andrew has been charged with raping one of the victims, his younger brother has been charged with instigating others to violence.

Under Romanian law, a judge will have 60 days to look over case files after they are sent to the court's preliminary chamber. Following this, a trial date can be organised with it allegedly expected to last several years.

All four, namely the Tate brothers and the two Romanian female suspects, have denied charges, as a spokesperson for the former influencers described the case as 'undoubtedly predictable' to Sky News.

They said: "We embrace the opportunity it presents to demonstrate their innocence and vindicate their reputation."

In addition to the decision to move to trial, Romanian authorities revealed they had also seized more than $384,000 worth of Bitcoin, 15 buildings, pieces of land and 14 luxury watches from the Tates for the investigation.

The British-American influencer and former professional kickboxer has mainly lived in Romania since 2017 after he was removed from UK television show Big Brother the year before, when a video surfaced of Andrew allegedly attacking a woman.
