I am sure that Jensen Huang did not expect his idea for a multinational technology company would be worth almost one trillion dollars 30 years down the line, as he sat in a roadside Denny’s diner with co-founders Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem in 1993…

However, NVIDIA Corporation has grown into an established business that creates graphic processing units, applications and chips for computers and AI which has now been boosted by the interest in artificial intelligence.

As a result, Huang’s net worth has increased by $21 billion in 2023, with last week seeing his bank account rise by $7 billion alone, as he stated a ‘new computing era’ has emerged.

Artificial intelligence has taken the world by storm, for good or bad reasons, with the likes of ChatGPT helping people write essays at school and Tom Hanks suggesting his acting legacy could live on after his death with the help of technology.

While artificial intelligence has helped school children turn their homework around quickly, it has evidently helped technology companies like that of Huang’s NVIDIA, but who is the Taiwanese-American electrical engineer? PeopleWorld takes a look:

Jen-Hsun "Jensen" Huang, a Taiwanese-American billionaire, is the president of NVIDIA Corporation and an electrical engineer.

Jensen moved to the United States with his family at the age of nine, and called Kentucky home for several years before settling in Portland, Oregon where he went to school and university.

Following his undergraduate degree at Oregon State University in 1984 where he met his now-wife Lori as his lab partner, Jensen completed a computer engineering master's at Stanford University.

Huang became the director of LSI Logic straight after graduating before creating the idea of NVIDIA at 30-years-old for which he was recognised with the Entrepreneur of the Year in High Technology award by Ernst & Young.

Huang owns around 3.6% of NVIDIA’s shares so as a result has seen his net worth grow to around $35 billion this year as interest increases in artificial intelligence.

The $21 billion increase puts Huang as the 37th richest person in the world according to Bloomberg, which marks quite the milestone for the CEO who reportedly got a tattoo of NVIDIA after their share price reached $100.

The father-of-two has previously used his wealth for good as seen by his $50 million donation to his former university in 2022 to help with the creation of a super computing institution.
