Colleen Ballinger hit the headlines recently for allegations of grooming, bullying, exploiting minors and now she has been accused of racism

Youtuber Colleen is best known for her creation and portrayal of the character ‘Miranda Sings’ addressed rumours in a bizarre ‘apology’ video where she plays the ukulele and sings about the ‘toxic gossip train.’ The comedian has faced backlash over recent weeks, has lost followers and even brands have cut ties with her.

But fans weren't convinced she was genuinely sorry and decided to take a deep dive into her past videos and are now highlighting her very problematic ‘comedy’ content.

In a video clip from 2009 the comedian is seen performing Beyoncé's hit Single Ladies with what appears to be a blackface. According to Variety Law firm Berk Brettler who represents Colleen reached out to them to deny it was black face paint.

Her legal team explained that in the full video clip prior to singing the Beyoncé song, Colleen sings ‘As Long as You’re Mine’ from the musical’ Wicked’. She painted her face green - not black - just like the character Elphaba in the stage show.

Although her legal team quickly cleared the misunderstanding up she has also been accused of racism in another resurfaced clip. A video shared on TikTok of Colleen shows the YouTuber mocking Koreans as she sings to Psy’s Gangnam Style. Colleen pokes fun at the language by singing the song with particularly poor foreign accent.

The Youtube video from 2013 was viewed over six million with many people commenting on how on earth she made a career out of such offensive content.

In 2020 Colleen was forced to apologise after impersonating Latino women in a separate video. She said “It is not funny, and it is completely hurtful. I am so ashamed and embarrassed that I ever thought this was OK. I was a sheltered teenager who was stupid and ignorant and clearly extremely culturally insensitive… Racial stereotypes are not funny, they’re not a joke, and they should never be joked about.”
