Grieving grandad pays tribute to ‘angel’ girl, 17, found dead two days after going missing

Hundreds of tributes have poured in for teenager Amy Hall after a body has been found in Derbyshire

A body believed to be missing teenager Amy Hall has been found by police.

The 17-year-old went missing on Thursday, September 9 at around 1pm from her home in Hayfield, Derbyshire.

Officers have since said the body found in the Birch Vale area, near New Mills, is believed to be the missing teenager.

Amy’s family have now been informed and formal identification is yet to take place as a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Derbyshire Police have confirmed there is not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

‘She was a lovely girl. An angel’

Amy’s grandfather Stewart Turnbull told The Sun that her family is heartbroken.

He said: "We are all devastated. She was a lovely girl. An angel."

A friend of Amy’s, who asked not to be named, told the newspaper they helped to look for her and they had hoped to see her again.

"We all hoped we would see her again. It’s terrible. Everyone is so upset."

‘She was such a sweet little girl with huge blue eyes’

Amy’s mum Nicky Hall received the following tribute on her Facebook profile in memory of her daughter.

It said: “My daughter was in reception with Amy. I remember her as such a quiet and sweet little girl with huge blue eyes.

“I am so desperately sorry for your loss. Sending you love and strength for the coming days and weeks.”

Nicky said in Facebook post: “I can’t believe I am saying this but I feel I have to due to people organising searches and posters.

“Amy Hall’s body was found earlier she has died. Sorry to tell people this way.

“Many thanks for everything everyone has done. Nicky Hall Amy’s mum xxx.”

A neighbour, Richard Hughes, 54, told the newspaper her death was “heartbreaking”.

“We all hoped she would be found safe and well. My heart goes out to the family,” he added.

What the police said

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: “The body of a what is believed to be missing teenager Amy Hall has been found in the Birch Vale area, near New Mills.

“Amy’s family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.

“Formal identification of the 17-year-old is yet to take place, officers are preparing a file for the coroner and there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”
