Updated: the Prince and Princess of Wales have now shared an intimate photo of Queen Elizabeth with the young members of the Royal family that was taken at Balmoral in the summer of 2022. The couple wrote alongside the image: "Today would have been Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s 97th birthday. This photograph - showing her with some of her grandchildren and great grandchildren - was taken at Balmoral last summer," along with a photo credit - none other than Princess Catherine herself.

Today would have been the 97th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, and as Royalists are paying tribute to the late monarch, so too are members of the Royal family, taking to social media to share their tributes. Already, the official Twitter account of The Royal Family, primarily used as a means of communication for King Charles III and Queen Camilla, has posted a tribute including a fitting picture of the beaming Queen.

Despite also being “snubbed” regarding an invitation to the Coronation, that did not stop Sarah Ferguson also paying tribute to her mother-in-law, taking to Instagram to write: “today would have been Her Late Majesty the Queen’s 97th birthday and I will spend the day thinking of her. For over 70 years she was a constant and steadfast presence in our national life, and for me she was a wonderful mother-in-law, friend and adviser. I miss her more than words can express.”

As of writing, there has been no tribute shared yet from the social media accounts of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - but in defence of Harry and Meghan (again), it is still the early hours of the morning in California, so perhaps expect something or anything later in the day GMT.

From the political world though, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson also took to his official Twitter account to pay tribute to a woman he met numerous times while leader of the United Kingdom. “Today is the birthday of our late great Queen Elizabeth II. It is a day to remember all she did for our country, and her timeless virtues of compassion and resilience and service.”

Such has been the enduring legacy of Queen Elizabeth II that the majority of posts on Twitter regarding the Queen’s birthday have been warm and positive, with many taking note of her kind nature and service to her country while the ruling monarch. We will of course update this post when more tributes from Royal family members and adjacent people turn in their dedications to the late Queen of England.
