Imogen McKay: who is Alex Beresford’s future wife, when did they get engaged, who was ex Natalia Natkaniec?

TV presenter Alex Beresford has revealed that he is engaged to girlfriend Imogen McKay, after proposing on New Year’s Day while they were on holiday in Majorca together.

Who is Imogen McKay?

McKay is a 29-year-old restaurant e-commerce operations manager who grew up in Australia.

According to her LinkedIn account, McKay attended Perth College before studying at the University of Western Australia from 2012 - 2015, where she earned a BA Commerce/Arts degree.

She worked as a corporate account manager at FLOWERBX, a luxury flower delivery company, for three years between January 2018 and March 2021.

McKay then joined the team at River Cafe as a shop operations manager in March 2021, where she still works today.

River Cafe is an Italian restaurant which earned a Michelin star in 1998, which it still retains, and boasts an impressive line up of big name chefs who have worked in its kitchen over the years, including Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Jamie Oliver.

How did they meet - and how long have they been together?

Beresford and McKay have been together since August 2020, after they were set up by a mutual friend on a blind date.

Speaking to Hello Magazine, Beresford said: “I’d been on my own for a while and was ready for a new relationship. But I was adamant I didn’t want to try a dating website.

“I’m of an age where before social media, you met a girl, took her phone number and invite her out.

“When I asked a friend if she knew anyone she thought I’d get on with, she cheekily replied, “I do - but she’s way too good for you”. I laughed and told her, “She’s the one that I want!”

“We hit it off from the start. We talked every day about our shared values and goals, and our love for our families. We’ve always been on the same page.”

Talking about their first date, McKay said: “I’d never seen him on TV but refrained from looking him up because I wanted to find out for myself what he was like.

“When we met, it felt as if we’d known each other for ages. Holding hands and laughing together just came naturally.”

When did they get engaged?

The couple became engaged after Beresford popped the question on New Year’s Day earlier this year, when they were on holiday together in Majorca.

Beresford said: “I took Imogen for a walk along the beach. The weather was sunny and warm, and the sea was crystal clear. “This is it,” I thought.

“Imogen’s not one for taking photos, but as I persuaded her to pose for a picture overlooking the sea, I kneeled down to take the engagement ring I’d hidden beside my rucksack.

“When she turned around, I was on one knee, and asked the biggest question of my life - and she said yes. It was an amazing moment.”

According to Hello, Beresford and McKay are planning to return to Majorca for their wedding, scheduled to take place in September.

Around 100 guests are expected to attend the wedding, with Beresford’s 12-year-old son Cruz, whom he had in his previous relationship with Natalia Natkaniec, acting as ring bearer and mini best man.

Who is ex Natalia Natkaniec?

Beresford was previously married to ex-wife Natalia Natkaniec, an interior designer and fitness enthusiast. They lived in Bristol together and were generally pretty private about their relationship, although they occasionally shared pictures on their respective Instagram accounts on their holiday trips abroad.

The pair split up at the end of 2019, however initially decided to continue living together for the sake of their son, Cruz.

At the beginning of 2020, Beresford had to be separated from Natkaniec and their son after she began displaying Covid-19 symptoms.

In an interview on Get Britain Talking in June 2020, he said: “Natalia developed symptoms, she had a cough. It turned out not to be Covid-19, they had to self isolate for 14 days - so I went from living in a house full of people to living on my own in lockdown.

“I watched Boris Johnson’s lockdown message sitting on my sofa feeling really lonely. And I couldn’t see Cruz for two weeks.”

He added that that “as we kind of moved into the summer, myself and Natalie decided we were going to part ways, which, you know me - i’m not a quitter, and I hate quitting things”.

Beresford continued: “We tried to work through things, but at some point you realise the best thing to do for everybody is walk away, but walking away is never easy.

“We were in the same house up until the beginning of [2020], knowing that we were parting ways, it takes a while to figure things out.”
