The annual BRIT Awards see the biggest names in UK entertainment gather together for the prestigious ceremony, like Adele who scooped up the three top prizes of the night during the first gender neutral awards night.

Also in attendance at the night was actress Jodie Whittaker, who revealed that she and her husband are expecting their second child.

This is everything you need to know.

Whittaker confirmed that she is pregnant with her second child during the Brit Awards 2022.

The Doctor Who star announced the news on the red carpet at London’s O2 on Tuesday (9 February).

She showed off her baby bump wearing her custom cream and orange gown by stylist Helen Sykes and creative director Carli Pearson behind the British brand Cimone.

Sykes said: “It was important for Jodie to work with a female-led British brand for this event.

“I think there is a clear correlation between Jodie’s assertiveness and the inherent strength of Carli’s designs.”

The creative duo said they sought to integrate Whittaker’s baby bump into their design, without emphasising or hiding it.

Pearson added: “We chose orange because it is a powerful and divisive colour, you either love it or hate it, it’s flamboyant, determined, and designed to make a splash, it’s not a colour for a wallflower.

“We wanted to capture Jodie’s effervescent energy in the piece, to harness her sense of fun while also honouring her headstrong nature.

“Jodie Whittaker is an ideal muse for our brand, and we’re excited to see her bring the piece to life at the Brit Awards.”

Whittaker has largely kept the news of her pregnancy quiet - she has not announced when she’s due to give birth, nor the gender of her second child.

She gave birth to her and her husband’s first child in April of 2015, with the two keeping the youngster out of the spotlight.

Who is her husband Christian Contreras?

Christian Contreras is a Hispanic-American actor and writer who gained a BA in English from the University of North Carolina in Wilmington and a BA (Hons) in Acting from London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Contreras has appeared in roles such as Zero Dark Thirty alongside Jessica Chastain (Scenes from a Marriage, It: Chapter Two), The Fifth Estate with Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, The Imitation Game), The Syndicate, Halo: Nightfall and Strangers.

His most recent on screen role was in the 2021 series Foundation as Dorwin.

In 2015, Contreras sold his film pitch Principia to Warner Bros and secured a three picture deal with the company and producer David Goyer, who has also produced projects such as Foundation, Krypton, Constantine: City of Demons and Flashforward.

How long have they been together?

Whittaker met her future husband when they were in drama school, and the pair married in 2008.

Over the course of their relationship, the couple have been highly private about their personal lives together.

Whittaker told the Independent in a 2011 interview that she doesn’t “talk about relationships because it lets people into stuff”.

She said: “I’m not on Facebook for that reason. I find it a bit odd that acting comes with people knowing things about you that sometimes only your best mates know.

“I find it strange that you’re expected to share it with millions of people you’ve never met.

“I can totally understand how that comes across as heresy, but, yuh, so I’m married to Christian - have been for two years - a fact that is probably on Wikipedia anyway.

“And I’m not going to deny I’m married, I wear a bloody wedding ring after all. We had a big wedding in Arizona - very attention seeking, big dress, big guest list kind of wedding. It was obviously in my top five days.”

The Doctor Who star has opened up a bit about her relationship with Contreras in the past.

She said: “He’s from Tucson and I’m from Huddersfield.

“But I don’t divulge stuff about him, because I don’t think he’d appreciate it when he’s not here to speak for himself. We do get comments like, “Where the hell did you two meet?”. We’re like an international couple.”

Whittaker added: “I felt really young when I got married at just 26, especially living and working somewhere as fast paced as London - where you can’t even plan for the next week, let alone commit to something for the rest of your life.

“But I’m a good wife, though I think I’m a bit rubbish at home comforts.”
