When she visited Leeds yesterday, Kate Middleton joked that she wouldn’t be getting Valentine’s Day roses from Prince William. Although this was a ‘joke,’ the couple are renowned for being very private.

Unlike Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Prince William and Kate (until recently) have not publicly shown any romantic gestures. As Elle magazine explained, “However, on some occasions, the pair have let their guards down, allowing the world to see just how in love and affectionate they are with each other.

A key PDA moment has to be the Earthshot Prize Awards which took place in Boston in December 2022. Not only were there photographs of the couple staring into each other’s eyes, but there was a touching moment when Prince William put his hand on his wife’s back.

When Kate Middleton and Prince William went on their Platinum Jubilee Royal Tour of the Caribbean last year, there were several times during the trip where it was obvious to see the close bond between the couple.

On one occasion Kate touches Prince William’s hand during a visit to the Daystar Evangelical Church in the Bahamas.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Without question Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are the most open when it comes to PDA’s in public. They are often photographed holding hands and Prince Harry is often seen touching Meghan Markle’s hair when it is blown out of place.

There is also a touching and romantic story regarding Meghan’s wedding dress. “In a clip from Queen of the World (an ITV documentary about the late Queen), Meghan is seen admiring her wedding dress and veil for the first time since her wedding day,” Harpers Bazaar reveal. “She’s then heard explaining that she’s had a piece of ‘fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date’ stitched into the lining of the dress, as her ‘something blue.’

King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort

When Camilla, Queen Consort, turned 60 in 2007, the Prince of Wales personally conducted a piece of music for her, showing his romantic side. When he was a special guest on BBC Radio 3,s Private Passions, he revealed how he had joined the Philharmonia Orchestra for a performance of Wagner’s 1870 Siegfried Idyll. King Charles describes the Siegfried Idyll as ‘possibly the most romantic music almost of all time.’

One also can’t forget that King Charles and Camilla have known and loved each other for a long time and first met when he was 22 and she was 24.

Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh

The late Queen was only 13 when she was introduced to an 18-year old cadet Prince Philip at the Royal Naval college in 1939. Throughout the war years, they began to exchange letters ( a romantic gesture in itself) and their relationship blossomed when he returned from war.

According to Tatler magazine, “When it comes to love stories, the tale of Princess Elizabeth falling head-over heels for strapping solder, Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, is worthy of it’s own Disney film.”

Throughout and even before their marriage, the couple showed their love and support for one another. If reports are to be believed, Prince Philip gave up smoking on his wedding day as he knew how much the Queen hated her father smoking.

There is also a wonderful photograph of the couple at the Braemar Gathering in Scotland in 2015 where the pair shared a blanket together.

When the Duke of Edinburgh passed away, it left a dreadful void in the Queen’s life and it is impossible to forget the poignant photographs of the Queen having to sit alone at his funeral because the country was under strict Covid restrictions at the time.
