Prince George is waking up today as a ten year old, and it is one of those ages that really means something as a child. The idea of double rather than single digits is rather thrilling and Prince George is undoubtedly feeling quite ‘grown up.’

To celebrate his ninth birthday, Kensington Palace released a photograph of Prince George on a U.K. beach holiday. The photograph was taken by Catheirine, Princess of Wales and shows a smiley looking Prince George wearing an open necked blue polo shirt.

The caption for the photograph read: “George is turning 9!”, this was followed by a birthday cake and balloon emojis. For Prince George’s eighth birthday, Catherine, Princess of Wales, was once again the photographer, and on this occasion, Prince George wore a striped navy and orange polo shirt and matching shorts.

Although much is made of the similarities in appearance between Prince George and Prince William, Prince George is clearly experiencing a very different childhood to that of his father.

The tragic loss of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, when he was only 15, of course had unquestionably a huge impact on Prince William’s teenage years and obviously made him more determined that when he had children, they would have as ‘normal’ a childhood as possible.

Carole and Michael Middleton, Princess Catherine’s parents, are very ‘involved’ grandparents. When Prince George was born on 22 July 2013, the next day, Catherine, Princess of Wales is believed to have taken her newborn baby home to the comforts of her parents home in Berkshire.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, and her siblings Pippa and James have always been incredibly close with their parents Carole and Michael and Prince William seems to have ‘embraced’ his in-laws too. It was Michael Middleton who took the first photograph of the couple and newborn Prince George that was released to the media, which shows the tight bond between them all.

Prince George is likely to spend his 10th birthday with his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, as well as his grandparents, Carole and Michael Middleton. Although his parents have endeavoured to give Prince George as ‘normal’ as childhood as possible, he did take an active role in his grandfather, King Charles’s coronation.

For King Charles’s coronation on May 6, 2023, Prince George was one of his pages of honour, alongside Lord Oliver Cholmondeley, Master Nicholas Barclay and Master Ralph Tollemache. He also accompanied his parents and sister, Princess Charlotte, to the Coronation Concert.

Most recently, Prince George and Princess Charlotte joined their parents to see Carlos Alcaraz defeat Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final.
