Did Prince Harry’s snide remarks about Camilla Queen Consort in ‘Spare’ lead to his Frogmore eviction?

Prince Harry may have crossed the pond to live in Montecito with his family, but he also may have ‘crossed the line’ in both his memoir Spare and his Netflix documentary, when talking about Queen Consort Camilla.

Following some of Harry’s snipes indicating his step-mother as ‘the villain’, King Charles decided to evict Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from their five-bedroom home Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate, on Tuesday.

The decision to remove the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from their UK residence was reportedly ‘painful’ for King Charles, ahead of his coronation in May, as the new monarch was hesitant to add fuel to the fire between him and his younger son.

However, Charles believed Harry had ‘crossed a line’ and showed ultimate ‘disrespect’ when claiming that the Queen Consort was responsible for leaking stories to the press.

Namely, Prince Harry told Anderson Cooper in January that Camilla’s willingness to forge relationships with the British media made her ‘dangerous’ and could result in numerous ‘bodies in the streets’.

The claim was not the first snide remark Harry made towards Camilla, as he also painted out as the ‘evil stepmother’ in his book, and revealed he and Prince William had ‘begged’ for their father not to marry her.

Prince Harry met Camilla for the first time when he was 14, just a year after Princess Diana passed away, and indicated that the meeting was a ‘pure formality’ in his recent memoir.

Reports suggested that King Charles started the eviction proceedings on January 11, the day after Spare was released, after he received a dossier of findings by aides, with his decision backed by the Prince and Princess of Wales. 

An insider told The Mirror: “It was the last straw. Harry was well aware how Camilla would be a red line for his father and he crossed with flagrant disregard anyway. The King felt without a doubt it crossed a line – it was the ultimate act of disrespect.”

Although Prince Harry threw shade at Camilla in his recent tell-all productions, he had previously spoken about the Queen Consort in his 21st birthday interview with Hello magazine where he suggested that not only did she make his father happy (‘which is the most important thing’ but equally called for the public to understand her position in the royal family:

"Look at the position she's come into. Don't always feel sorry for me and William, feel sorry for her. We are grateful for her… we're very happy to have her around…"To be honest, she's always been very close to me and William. But no, she's not the wicked stepmother, I'll say that right now."

Prince Harry’s thoughts on Camilla seemingly changed as time passed, and the pair were last pictured together (before Harry and Meghan moved to America) in 2019 during the Trooping of the Colour. 

Prince Harry and Meghan have until after the coronation to remove their belongings from Frogmore, after the monarch offered the home to Prince Andrew - even though the Duke is reportedly refusing to leave his home at Royal Lodge.
