Prince William and Kate Middleton rolled up their sleeves to help create food packages as part of the local Windsor Foodshare event.

The food bank, which is situated close to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ home in Berkshire, is approaching its 10th anniversary of providing short-term weekly food parcels to local homes, where it is likely an individual or family would be hungry due to lack of financial support.

William and Kate spoke to the organisers about the service they provide and the charity’s founding principles, before praising them on their ‘vital’ work they do for those in need. The royal couple also commented that Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte had been made aware of the project due to their new school Lambrook, supporting the cause.

Last year the charity helped to feed over 7,000 residents, highlighting that on average Windsor Foodshare feeds 150 people every week.

Weekly packages include food items such as bread, eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables while monthly parcels have cleaning supplies and toiletries, all supplied by monetary and food donations.

Shortly after The Wales’ visit, a volunteer told Hello! Magazine: “Kate in particular wanted to know about the quality and quantity of the food…they were both also really taken about the respect we offer people, our clients. And Kate liked the fact that we have children in here and learn very early on that others are not as fortunate as them.”

William and Kate’s’ visit comes at a time when the royal family are trying to distance themselves from the fallout surrounding Prince Harry’s documentary and biography ‘Spare’ by looking to be more aware of the issues people are facing every day.

Not only has the Princess of Wales recently announced her plans for a campaign to create a foundation of ‘why early childhood education matters’ but also the couple next in line to the throne have created a pattern of visiting food banks as the cost of living crisis continues to prevail.

Kate Middleton specifically addressed the cost crisis while chatting to volunteers at a food bank in Swansea, Wales, three months ago.

During her first visit as the newly-named Princess of Wales to St Thomas Church, Kate said that the food bank and baby banks are ‘a lifeline to so many people’ particularly after the pandemic.
