The ‘Princess of Soho’ India Rose James first made the Sunday Times Rich List at the age of 21, making her the youngest to ever appear on the feature.

Now, a decade later, the art gallery owner and heiress has maintained her place on the list and is ranked as the fifth wealthiest individual under the age of 35 with a net worth of £758 million after inheriting her grandfather’s wealth with her half-sister Fawn and creating her own business.

While India Rose James claims she is not a ‘nepo-baby’ after inheriting £329 million from her property magnate and porn publisher ‘Papa’ Paul Raymond in 2008, which made her wealthier than the late Queen Elizabeth II at the time, she stated the money was a ‘great leg up’ to her own hard-working business.

Talking to the Sunday Times, James said: “When I was younger my dad jokingly said that I’d never have to work. He told me about the family business and I spent a lot of time with my grandfather, so I knew that, financially, we were OK.

“Like most foolish teenagers I thought that never having to work sounded perfect…Looking back I can see that I had zero motivation because I had no idea what I wanted to do. If you don’t have to work to make money, you need a passion. I found art.”

India launched the Soho Revue Gallery in an old recording studio on Greek Street, London in 2015 displaying work from emerging artists.

The mum of one, who shares six-year-old daughter Sapphire with The Kooks’ guitarist Hugh Harris, planned to take Soho Revue across the pond to West Hollywood and even launched a pop-up exhibition on Walker’s Street (reworking the home of her grandfather’s old infamous Raymond’s Revuebar) to display work by female artists.

When the exhibition first launched in 2021, India told Tatler: “There isn’t nearly enough female art around, so I knew I wanted to re-open with a women-only show. Walker’s Court has a history of showcasing women and I wanted to reclaim that in a more modern way.”

With India’s business spread across Soho, the heiress also calls the London borough home as she still lives there with her boyfriend American musician Daniel Vildósola, her two Brussels griffon dogs and daughter Saffi.
