A few weeks ago, Charlotte Owen was not an instantly recognisable name to the majority of the general public. However that all changed when Boris Johnson made her the country’s youngest life peer in British history after she was named in his honours list. Charlotte Owen, who is Boris Johnson’s former aide, who only served in parliament for five years and eight months, is only 29.

As to the question whether she is related to Boris Johnson’s first wife Allegra Mostyn-Owen, despite sharing partly the same surname, the answer is no. Charlotte Owen is reportedly the daughter of Michael Tranter-Owen and Kathryn L Grantham.

So, back to Allegra Mostyn-Owen, Boris Johnson’s first wife.

The couple were married between 1987 and 1993 when they divorced. They met at Oxford and Allegra has been referred to as Boris’s  ‘university girlfriend.’ Their wedding in 1987 has been described as ‘a cross between La Dolce Vita and Brideshead Revisited.’

According to Tatler magazine, “Allegra was the captivating daughter of art historian and Christie’s auction house Chairman, the millionaire William Mostyn-Owen and his Italian writer wife, Gaia Servadio. The family seat was Woodhouse, a great-11-listed estate in Shropshire. The house was their wedding venue-where Allegra wore flowers through her hair and Johnson arrived with neither trousers nor shoes.”

Allegra has not spoken at length about her marriage to Boris Johnson and is now married to Abdul Majid, who is reportedly 22 years her junior. She is believed to have met Abdul when she was a guest at a wedding in Lahore, Pakistan.

Allegra did not have children with Boris Johnson and told the Evening Standard in 2012 that “he may not have been a great husband but he’s a very good ex husband.”
