Although in recent years, more Hollywood stars have become open about having cosmetic surgery, the same cannot be said for politicians. However, it would seem that Silvio Berlusconi was the exception.

In 2004, The Guardian reported that during his year-end press conference he “acknowledged for the first time that he had had a hair transplant in the summer after undergoing facial surgery last Christmas." The former Italian Prime Minister said that “Given the possibilities of today’s cosmetic surgery, I think that those who can afford it have a duty to present themselves in the best possible way.” He went on to say that “It’s a form of respect.”

In 2011, Silvio Berlusconi underwent jaw and dental surgery to correct damage that was inflicted on him when a man threw a statuette at him in 2009. The New York Post reported that the then “premier suffered a broken nose and two broken teeth when a man hurled a miniature statue of Milan’s cathedral at him at close range at the end of a political rally in Milan in December 2009. The attacker had a history of psychological problems.”

Over the years, there has been quite a lot of talk over Silvio Berlusconi’s physical appearance. In 2017, people took to social media regarding his wrinkle-free face. The International Business Times said that “With his deep orange tan and unfeasibly flat forehead some have said the flamboyant (then) 81-year old now resembles a Madame Tussauds waxwork rather than a living person.”

As for whether any other key politicians have had cosmetic surgery over the years, whilst none have admitted to it, that doesn’t mean the subject hasn’t been brought up. When Donald Trump addressed a campaign rally in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2020, he said the following (in response to Joe Biden’s  strict mask-wearing at the time due to the covid pandemic): “‘I mean, honestly, what the hell did he spend all that money on the plastic surgery (for) if he is going to cover it up.’”

The New York Post reported in 2020 that “Experts attribute Biden’s ‘full head of hair, smooth forehead and Cheshire Cat grin’ to medical intervention, pointing to his hairline and disappeared wrinkles.

One expert told The Post that Biden appears to have received a lateral brow/eyelid lift, among other procedures, including Botox injections. The article goes on to say that, “Trump who allegedly underwent his own cosmetic procedure-scalp reduction surgery in 1989-offered the jab at Biden while ridiculing his persistent mask use.”
