M20 closed: Major motorway in Kent shut between J9 Ashford to J8 Maidstone after serious crash involving multiple cars

A major motorway is shut in Kent after a serious crash.
The M20 in Kent is closed after a crash that involving multiple vehicles. National Highways says: “#M20 westbound closed J9 #Ashford to J8 #Maidstone following a multi-vehicle collision.
“Traffic stopped eastbound for @airambulancekss to land”. Kent Police says: “Our officers are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the #M20, between junction 9 and 8.
“Fire crews and paramedics are also in attendance and the westbound and eastbound carriageways are currently is closed. Motorists should consider alternative routes.”
Diversion Route
Road users are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol, which has a height limit of 4.7M:
- Leave the M20 at J9 take the 1st exit towards Ashford/Canterbury
- At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A20
- Follow the A20 for approximately 14 miles, passing through Charing, Lenham and Harrietsham to re-join the M20 westbound at J8.
