CCTV footage shows the thieves leaping over a wall into the building site, before opening an inside door to let the two other accomplices inside.

The gang then appeared to hot-wire a bright orange coloured mini digger, with one of the men captured slowly maneuvering the vehicle onto the street.

The digger was then loaded onto a trailer which was towed by a white Ford Transit van, and the gang then fled.

The van then left the scene and headed in the direction of the Northern Common road.

Derbyshire Police have now released CCTV footage of the incident to appeal for more information to track down the thieves responsible.

A spokesperson for the force said: “The bright orange digger was driven off the site and placed on a trailer.

“The Transit van then left the scene in the direction of the Northern Common Road.”
