CCTV footage shows the thieves leaping over a wall into the building site, before opening an inside door to let the two other accomplices inside.

The gang then appeared to hot-wire a bright orange coloured mini digger, with one of the men captured slowly maneuvering the vehicle onto the street.

The digger was then loaded onto a trailer which was towed by a white Ford Transit van, and the gang then fled.

The van then left the scene and headed in the direction of the Northern Common road.
