The next bank holiday for England, Wales and Northern Ireland will take place on Monday 30 August.

However, the August bank holiday in Scotland will take place at the beginning of the month and not the end, falling on Monday 2 August.

Scotland’s public holidays tend to be slightly different to those in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

After the usual New Year’s Day break on 1 January across the UK, Scotland also counts 2 January as a bank holiday.

However, it doesn’t mark Easter Monday as a public holiday, but does mark St Andrews Day on 30 November, so the following Monday is a public holiday.

Along with England, Wales and Northern Ireland, Scotland marks Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

It also observes Good Friday and both the bank holidays in May.

Northern Ireland gets two extra bank holiday weekends – one on 17 March to mark St Patrick’s Day and the other on 12 July to commemorate the Battle of the Boyne.

If 17 March and 12 July both fall on a weekend, the following Monday is the bank holiday.
