Will it snow today? Met Office issues weather warning for snow as wintry conditions sweep country over weekend

The Met Office has issued a new yellow weather warning for snow after wintry conditions swept across the country at the start of the weekend.

The new weather warning covers eastern England, with the warning in place from 10am until 4pm on Sunday, February 15.

“Slushy accumulations of a cm or so are likely with a chance of 2-4 cm should snow turn briefly heavier, this more likely for the Lincolnshire Wolds and parts of Norfolk and Suffolk. Snow should turn back to rain, before clearing late afternoon, with any lying snow melting readily. “

There are warning that the wintry conditions could cause travel disruption, including causing dangerous conditions on roads.

The latest weather warning comes after an Arctic Maritime air mass swept across the country on Friday, bringing snow, ice, sleet, rain and plunging temperatures to large swathes of the country.

As a result, there are still flooding warnings across the country. The Environmental Agency has issued 71 flood warnings across England, with an additional 106 flood alerts in place. The EA said in its latest update: “Ongoing impacts from groundwater are probable for parts of the South of England through the next five days.

“Ongoing flooding impacts are also probable from rivers across Somerset and Wiltshire. Ongoing local river flooding is possible for parts of the Midlands today (Sunday) until Tuesday. Properties could flood and there could be travel disruption.

“Local surface water and river flooding impacts are possible in parts of England and Wales today and Wednesday, with impacts possible but not expected later on Wednesday and Thursday. Land, roads and properties could flood and there could be travel disruption.”

Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst said that most areas of the country will experience blustery conditions as well as showery rain and some hill snow on Sunday (February 15).
