The Disasters & Emergency Committee (DEC) have launched a new humanitarian appeal to help victims of the conflict in Ukraine.

The charity group launched the fundraiser to allow those in the UK to donate what they can towards fleeing families in need in Ukraine.

According to the UN, one million people have left the country since Russia began its assault with at least 225 deaths reported and 575 civilians injured.

Those across the world have been looking for ways to help those affected, with fundraisers to clothing donations.

What is the DEC Ukraine appeal?

The DEC Ukraine appeal is a cross charity fundraiser set up to help out those fleeing from danger during the currently Russian invasion of Ukraine.

DEC members and local partners are currently in the region to help identify the needs of civilians who have been forced to leave their homes as a result of violent attacks by the Russian military.

Currently, workers say that food, shelter and water is urgently needed.

The DEC says that approximately 18 million people in Ukraine are set to be affected by the war, with four million expected to be displaced.

The group said: “More than a million people have fled their homes to escape conflict in Ukraine. Leaving behind jobs, belongings and loved ones, they now face an uncertain future.

Intense conflict in Ukraine is threatening the lives and livelihoods of civilians across the country. Families have been separated. People have been injured. Lives have been lost.”

The appeal launch was across a range of British TV channels in a rare simulcast.

This included BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky News.

How can I donate to the DEC Ukraine appeal?

The DEC website is live now for donations.

A £30 donation could provide hygiene products for three people for a month, a £50 donation could provide blankets to four families, and £100 could provide emergency food to two families for one month.
