Israel-Hamas war: at least 10 British victims killed in conflict so far with six others being held hostage

It has been confirmed that at least 10 British citizens have been killed in the Israel-Hamas conflict so far, with six other missing Britons believed to be part of the group of hostages held by Hamas.

UK government minister Victoria Atkins confirmed the rise in the total number of Britons killed, from nine to ten. Speaking to Sky News this morning (24 October), Atkins also said of the six missing British citizens: "We understand - and I'm being very careful because we know how important accuracy of words is in this context - but we understand that they are hostages". She added that it was a "fast-moving situation" and warned that the figure "may or may not change".

To date, only seven of the 10 British victims of the have been named. This includes Glasgow-born man Bernard Cowan, 26-year-old Jack Marlowe who had been working as a security guard at the Supanova Music Festival when the Hamas attack took place, and 20-year-old Nathanel Young, who was serving in the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) at the time of the attack. Photographer Danny Darlinton was due to leave the country the night before the Hamas attack was launched on 7 October, but according to his sister, he decided to stay "one more day" to explore the area with his friend.

The third death from a missing family was confirmed on Monday (23 October), with mother Lianne Sharabi and her two daughters, 16-year-old Noiya and 13-year-old Yahel killed after Hamas aided the Be'eri kibbutz during the attack. The family are believed to have been kidnapped during the attack, with father Eli still believed to be alive and missing.
