England have released their official kits for the 2022 Qatar World Cup showcasing new home and away strips ahead of this winter’s eagerly anticipated tournament.

Gareth Southgate and Harry Kane will lead the England squad out in Qatar in November in a bid to win the trophy they have been unable to recapture since 1966.

The past two major tournaments have seen them reach the semi-finals (2018 World Cup) and the final (Euro 2020) but they are yet to finally claim any major silveware since that historic moment over five decades ago.

England’s latest kit - which they hope will bring them glory in Qatar - was leaked on social media last week, but the designs have now been confirmed, along with details on how to buy them ahead of November.

So what do the shirts look like and what was the inspiration?

What have Nike said about the kits?

These kits are set to be one of the most techincal yet. Speaking to GQ, the Nike’s Senior Director of Product Apparel Aaron Barnett has said that there are many forms of motion capture used to help create the kits.

“We always map all our kits on athletes’ bodies for heat maps and sweat maps, and this year the fourth dimension is that our team was able to design against the body in motion.

“So if we need to add more structure in the shoulder, more airflow on the chest, we’re able to design at the yarn level.”

Barnett and Lee Murphy, the Design Director for Nike Football, also added that sustainability and keeping a ‘fresh approach’ to the kit was of key importance in design.

Murphy was inspired by bringing both elements of the youthfulness of the team as well as those with greater experience into the design and therefore the lighter blue in the home kit is a nod to the ‘96 kit and the away kit’s red staple has echoes of David Beckham from France ‘98 as well as Gary Lineker from Italia ‘90.

What do the home kits look like?

The main body of the home shirts look similar to previous England shirts with the plain white body and the Three Lions logo.

However, in this version, we see the shoulders covered in a sky blue and navy pattern with the end of the sleeves also with a blue trim.

What do the away kits look like?

The away kits seem to have gone down slightly better with the fans as it is a red shirt with blue collar as well as the Three Lions badge also in blue.

The away kits also have red shirts as well as red socks with a navy blue trim at the top.

When do England play in 2022 Qatar World Cup?

England have been placed in Group B of the Qatar World Cup and will play Iran, USA and Wales in a bid to reach the knockout stages of the tournament.

Their first fixture will be on Saturday 21 November 2022 with a kick off of 1pm GMT. They will then play USA on 25 November at 7pm before facing Wales on 29 November at 7pm.
