Only a week after his incredible success at Indian Wells 2021, Cameron Norrie returned to the courts at the Vienna Open that started with qualifying rounds on Saturday 23 October 2021.

The Austrian Open takes place on hard courts at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria and has taken place there since 1974.

It was originally part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit between 1974 and 1989 but is now part of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour 500 series.

When is the Austrian Open taking place?

The competition started on Saturday 23 October 2021 with the qualifying rounds and will carry on until 31 October 2021.

The Erste Bank open is an ATP competition which is the men’s top-tier tennis tour and therefore Emma Raducanu is not participating in the event.

The 18-year-old Brit is currently playing in the Transylvania Open which is the equivalent tournament for the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

Raducanu will play her first match following her shock exit in the second round of the Indian Wells tournament against Polona Hercog today, Tuesday 26 October 2021.

The match is due to start at 5pm BST

Cameron Norrie joined the Vienna Open in the Round of 32 straight off the back of his triumphant trip to California.

On Monday 18 October 2021, Norrie became the first British man to win the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells tournament. As a result of his success, he overtook Dan Evans to become the new British Male Number One and is now currently ranked at number 26 in the world.

He beat Marton Fucsovics 7-6 6-1 in his first game back in action since his triumph at Indian Wells which led him to a meet with Canada’s Felix Auger-Alliassime. Despite winning the first set 6-2, Auger-Alliassime fought back to take the second set in a tie break (8-6) and then went on to win the final set 6-4.

Britain’s Andy Murray was also in action at the Vienna Open and beat the fifth seed of the competition, Hubert Hurkacz for the first time 6-4 6-7 6-3. He faced Carlos Alcaraz Garfia in the second round but lost 6-3 6-4 to the Spaniard.

Dan Evans was in the competition but was beaten in the round of 32 by Murray’s future opponent 6-4 6-3.

World Number Three, Stefanos Tsitsipas is the top seed for the Vienna Open 2021 tournament. He is joined by Alexander Zverev, Matteo Berrettini, Casper Ruud, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Jannik sinner and Diego Schwartzman.

What is the prize money for the Erste Bank Open?

The total prize money available in Vienna is just over £1.5million which is a 30.3% increase on last year’s prize money. The winner is likely to take home a cheque worth £185,000 with the runner up earning £125,000.
