Beth Mead takes the crown as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year while Priti Patel’s Rwanda deportations Christmas card sparks outrage

2022 may be nearly drawing to a close but it seems that things are never quiet in the world of celebrities. We may just have featured Beth Mead on PeopleWorld’s hot list when she was nominated in the category for BBC Sports Personality of the Year, but she deservedly goes to the top today as she has won it!

2022 certainly has been an incredible year for Beth Mead, the Lionesses and women’s football in general. Not only was 27-year-old Beth the player of the tournament and top scorer at Euro 2022, she is the first women’s footballer to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. Wow, Beth, that is some achievement!

Next up today on PeopleWorld’s hot list is Idris Elba. Netflix have just revealed that the name of the upcoming Luther movie is called Luther: The Fallen Son, and have released some new photographs of Idris who will once again be reprising the role of detective Luther.

Idris was recently awarded an honorary doctorate by Ravensbourne University and I love his response to the award which he shared on Twitter: “I wanted to be in the creative arts because I wanted to contribute. I wanted to have a seat at the table. I wanted to have someone that looked like me, to have something to offer.”

Well Idris you certainly have something to offer and here at PeopleWorld, we are so pleased that you decided to be a part of the creative arts industry.

From the television world to the royals…

In a shake up of military roles amongst senior royals, Kate Middleton has been promoted to colonel of the Irish Guards. Kate has always attended engagements with the regiment over the years, and even handed a shamrock this year to the Irish Wolf Hound regimental mascot, Turlough Mor (also known as Seamus).

Kate’s promotion definitely earns her a spot in PeopleWorld’s hot list today.

Now, who is featuring on our not so hot list today? First up is former Home Secretary Priti Patel who has come under fire for a Christmas card that was reportedly sent by her that shows herself as a fairy magicking up Rwanda deportations. Mmm, the less said about this, the better!

Next up is Croatian footballer Dejan Lovren. He and fellow footballer Marcelo Brozovic were filmed singing a fascist anthem whilst partying after Croatia were eliminated from the World Cup in the semi-finals. This is abhorrent, and both Dejan and Marcelo should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

Last up today is Katie Price (yes Katie Price again!). She has been spotted having a wild night out that might have been sparked by her ex-fiance Carl Woods reportedly moving out of their home together. Things unfortunately seem to be going from bad to worse for Katie this year.

I am however honestly hoping Katie Prince can turn it all around soon as I have always admired the way she has brought up her oldest son Harvey single-handedly.
