It looks set to be a summer transfer window where strikers are once again the in-demand commodities with Manchester City’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund hitman Erling Haaland expected to dominate the headlines.

The Premier League champions aren’t the only club expected to be in the market for a centre forward with Arsenal in desperate need of attacking options while Manchester United and Liverpool may also find themselves on the lookout.

One of the most sought after forwards in Europe is likely to be Benfica star Darwin Nunez, who has been catching the eye with his stand out performances for Benfica this season - particularly in the Champions League.

Those who have seen the Uruguayan in action will no doubt have been impressed, but fans of the ever-popular FIFA video game series have been left curious by the player’s in-game statistics and valuation.

Here is what you need to know about the FIFA 22 statistics for Nunez, as well as the latest real life transfer news surrounding the striker:

Darwin Nunez: Why is his FIFA 22 rating so low?

Darwin Nunez has an overall rating of just 77 in FIFA 22, a score that isn’t even enough to rank him in the top 100 strikers in the game.

His rating is less than the likes of Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins (78) and Burnley’s Chris Wood (79) who is now with Newcastle United in real life.

The player also only has a highest potential rating of 85 which, although considerably better, still wouldn’t see him break into the top ten of FIFA 22’s highest rated forwards.

Here are some of the key statistics that Nunez starts off with in FIFA 22 career mode:

  • Finishing - 78
  • Dribbling - 72
  • Ball control - 75
  • Strength - 86
  • Sprint speed - 84

The player’s full statistics are available HERE.

It is likely that the Uruguayan’s statistics are so low due to both his relatively young age and his goal scoring statistics during his first season with Benfica in 2020/21.

Although he still managed 14 goals in 44 appearances, a more than respectable tally for the then 21-year old, his 33 goals in 38 appearances so far this season have clearly eclipsed that.

Similarly, Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic starts FIFA 22 career mode at Fiorentina with an overall rating of 78 - hardly reflective of a player now recognised as one of the most deadly hitmen in Europe.

Latest transfer interest from Arsenal and Liverpool in Darwin Nunez

Latest reports suggest that Newcastle United were the club most actively pursuing a move for Nunez but have pulled out - giving a boost to Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United who have all also been linked with the player.

Arsenal are the club most in need of a new centre forward having lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in January without signing a replacement.

Manchester United’s transfer intentions will become more clear once they announce their next permanent manager, with Tottenham and England captain Harry Kane believed to be a target for the Red Devils.

As for Liverpool, their need for a new striker is less than others, but Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the player particularly after his performances against the Reds in this seasons Champions League.

The fee currently being touted for the striker is €60 million - which is a fee all of the linked clubs should be able to afford.
