After a largely successful career on the pitch that saw him win two Scottish Premier Division titles and the FA Cup, Paul Gascoigne has seen his life turned into a documentary.

The BBC two-parter, which Gascoigne admitted was ‘emotional watching back’, will be broadcast at 9pm tonight (Wednesday April 13th) on BBC Two.

Despite being at the centre of a number of controversies both during his playing career and in retirement, the ex-England international has endured as a popular figure among many British football fans.

The Gazza documentary will explore the highs and lows of Gascoigne’s football career, as well as the difficulties in his personal life that were so often documented by the media.

From witnessing his friend die in a car crash as a child, to helping England to two semi-finals before suffering with alcoholism and mental illness, the BBC dig deep into Gascoigne’s life.

The documentary is five years in the making and has plenty of remarkable footage on display for viewers to witness themselves.

Where is Gazza now?

Gascoigne retired from football in 2004.

Since walking away from the professional game, the former Newcastle United and Tottenham star has battled a number of personal demons, and suffered from multiple addiction issues.

Among a number of controversial incidents, Gascoigne has been arrested on separate occasions for drink-driving and possession of cocaine, has been fined for drunkenly assaulting a railway worker in 2013 and making a racist joke against a security guard in 2016, and was was found not guilty of sexually assaulting a woman on a train in 2019.

After years of struggling with personal issues, the former midfielder is thought to be in a much better place personally, and recently took part in Rangers’ 150th anniversary celebration match between Rangers Legends and a World Legends side.

Gascoigne has three kids - Mason, Bianca, and Regan.

Mason (born in 1989) and Bianca (born in 1986) were the children of Gascoigne’s ex-wife Sheryl, but were adopted by the ex-Rangers star while they were married.

Regan (born in 1996) is Paul and Sheryl’s son and recently performed on the 2022 edition of Dancing on Ice.

Over the course of a long and storied career, Gascoigne appeared for a number of high-profile clubs.

The midfielder started his senior career with boyhood club Newcastle United in 1985, and would feature more than 90 times for the Toon Army before moving to Tottenham in 1988 for a British record fee of £2.2million. He would win the FA Cup during his time in north London.

From there, Gascoigne would move to Italy with Lazio, before returning to Britain to become an integral member of a hugely successful Rangers side.

Subsequent spells at Middlesbrough, Everton, and Burnley proved less successful, and the popular talent would have brief spells with Gansu Tianma in China and Boston United before calling time on his playing career.
