They were made to wait 24 hours to find out who they would face in the knockout stage, and after Joachim Low’s Germany side twice came from a goal down to draw 2-2 with Hungary, it will be the old rivals who will be next up for the Three Lions.

When is England v Germany?
England will next be in action on Tuesday 29 June at Wembley Stadium. Kick-off is 5pm.
As a result of winning Group D, they will face Germany, the runners-up in Group F, which finished on Wednesday night.
What happened in Group F?

At half-time in the two games, France and Portugal were drawing 1-1 and Germany were losing 1-0 in Munich against Hungary. As things stood, it meant Portugal were on track to finish second behind table-toppers France, with Hungary third on four points and Germany bottom with three points.

However, an exciting second half in Munich saw Germany first equalise through Kai Havertz before Hungary went straight up the other end and restored their lead.
At that stage, Germany were leading out of the tournament, but a late goal by Leon Goretzka ensured a 2-2 draw and a second-placed finish in Group F ahead of Portugal on goal difference, after their game against France also ended 2-2.
