The full-back revealed that he attempted to fight off a gang of robbers while his family were present in the house, with the four perpetrators making off with a number of items of jewellery.

The 27-year-old was also voted into the Professional Footballers’ Association Premier League team of the season for 2020-21 last campaign.

The City full-back posted a photo of himself to his Instagram story in which he has a visible cut above his eye alongside the caption: “Unfortunately today I was assaulted by four cowards who hurt me and tried to hurt my family.

He added: “After so many obstacles in my life, this is just one more that I will overcome”.
